Interventional Radiologist/Image Guided Surgeon
Nigel is a Consultant Radiologist at Southampton University Hospitals. He was one of the UK Pioneers in UFE commencing in 1997.
In 1998 he set up Fibroid Caribbean, a service for private and health service patients requiring UFE throughout the Caribbean, based out of Trinidad and Barbados.
In 2009 he helped set up the Fibroid centre at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya and has performed over 250 UFE procedures there. This is due to expand to the Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam in 2017.
He is working with a south African team of Interventional Radiologists to expand UFE into several centres in South Africa, as well as helping set up UFE centres in Namibia, Botswana and several other countries in Sub-Saharan AfricaHe has performed over 2500 UFE procedures to date and he is now one of the most experienced practitioners in UFE in the world.
Sam Jeans qualified as a Registered Nurse at Salford University. She has spent the last 10 years working in conjunction with Interventional Radiologists UK-wide to increase the awareness of Fibroid Embolization and to set up new practices throughout the UK giving support to clinical practice and patients. Sam liaises with women enquiring about fibroid embolisation and will arrange the timing of the procedure and will advise on all follow up
